Brief Description of the Project
Scope of the project is the implementation of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) of a thousand mobile units of the Greek Police, which will communicate with a safe encrypted connection with the Headquarters Building of the Greek Police (GPH). This implementation will be completed through a closed and secure network. The GPH building will be the focal point for interconnecting mobile units with applications operating in central information systems. The Police officer will handle the appropriate portable computer with wireless (HSDPA/3G/GPRS) access and will be linked to databases, at the GPH building, which will have fixed access via a symmetrical line at the VPN network in question. Therefore, it will be able to utilize critical applications and take advantage of new opportunities given by such a network architecture.
The project individual objects are the following
-
Increase the availability of the information provided by the GP’s IT systems to the users, in areas of the country where there is a significant lag
-
The availability of services through remote wireless access methods, thus making them accessible to categories of users / police officers who are not necessarily in a fixed location
-
Reducing the time it takes to carry out audits or related actions as the police officer will be directly connected to the IT system.
-
The utilization by the police of the applications / services and sources of information that are accessible by the Greek Police.
