The Association of Companies "SPACE-RADIANT" successfully implemented in the year 2023 the project entitled "Digital Upgrading of the National Archaeological Museum with the use of innovative Information and Communication Technologies" (Subproject 2) within the framework of the Act "Modernization and Promotion of the National Archaeological Museum with the use of Information and Communication Technologies", through 12 Actions.
The precise and careful design and the impeccable implementation based on high quality standards was absolutely imperative in a project of the highest importance and magnitude for the most important and largest in terms of size and visitor numbers Museum of Greece. Its successful realization was a great honor and at the same time a great responsibility for the Association of Companies "SPACE-RADIANT", as it is a project that constitutes a breakthrough in digital services in the field of museums and is highlighted as an example for the implementation of similar services in other cultural areas.
The substantial upgrading of the existing digital infrastructure of the National Archaeological Museum, the implementation of 32 thematic tours in 6 languages that address its global audience, mobile applications, the virtual tour that will allow people who are unable to visit the museum to get to know its masterpieces, the remote educational programmes that will offer remote schools the opportunity to get in touch with themes of the ancient world in real time, the tactile exhibits with audio information for visually impaired people, the possibility of live broadcasting of important events and many more, place the National Archaeological Museum at the top of the list of extroversion and social contribution.
Such a project, huge in all its dimensions, required for its implementation the commitment of a number of excellent professionals, text editors, translators, speakers, application design specialists, graphic designers, architects, and others chosen by the contractors Space Hellas & Radiant Technologies in collaboration with the Museum.
The 12 Actions implemented are the following:
- Action 1: Improvement and substantial upgrading of the existing digital infrastructure of the National Archaeological Museum (in terms of equipment and software), to support the applications addressed to the visitors of the Museum.
- Action 2: Protection, digitization and documentation of the valuable Photographic Archive of the National Archaeological Museum.
- Action 3: Development and implementation of applications for the provision of services to visitors (e.g. tours of important finds using QR Codes).
- Action 4: Educational applications, i.e. organization and production of educational programs (with the necessary equipment - museum equipment) addressed not only to schools, visiting the Museum with physical presence, but also for the realization of virtual visits.
- Action 5: Virtual tour of the Museum's collections through selected exhibits.
- Action 6: Thematic public tours using mobile devices.
- Action 7: Informing the public about the activities of the National Archaeological Museum through social networks.
- Action 8: Installation and creation of information stations at the Museum (possibility of evaluation of the Museum's services by the visitor, sending e-cards, registration of the visitor in a newsletter).
- Action 9: Interconnection of the National Archaeological Museum with other websites.
- Action 10: Installation of a digital signage/information system in the exhibition areas.
- Action 11: Installation of a tele-broadcasting system for the Museum's events.
- Action 12: Development of applications and production of 32 thematic guided tours in 6 languages (Greek, English, French, German, English, French, Italian and Spanish), involving over 900 exhibits from all the Museum's collections. Each thematic tour, depending on its theme, is accompanied by a special introductory video that is presented at a designated location/island during the course of the tour of the Museum.
