Brief Description of the Project
In cooperation with other companies and in the context of a broader project, Space Hellas was contracted in May 2002 to develop the infrastructure for voice/data communication over a land fibre-optics cable to link the Aspropyrgos Oil Refineries (owned by Hellenic Oil) with the company (Olympic Fuel) responsible for supplying the Athens Airport (El. Venizelos) with fuel.
In view of the sensitive nature of the data transmitted through the fibre-optics cable (actually signals for the automation and regulation of the pumping stations), and the need to provide on-time and accurate transmission of voice/data, certain design considerations had to be taken into account, given also the particular environmental constraints (air-conditioning beyond human control).
The solution provided by Space Hellas involved:
- the setting up of a local switched Gigabit Ethernet network of high availability and redundancy using MRV & RAD products
- the setting up of a voice network along the pipeline. This network is based on IP telephony built on 3Com products.
