Contracted object : Integrated Pan-Hellenic Communications Network

Concise Description of the Project

ALPHA Bank has based its Data Communications Network on Space Hellas' products and know-how since many years ago.

The development and operation of this network do not constitute a self-existent and sporadic task, but a process of continuous development, upgrade, replacement and addition of equipment.

The initial network was based on Statistical Multiplexers and VMS (former Motorola) modems.

In the course of time, changes in the network's technology and design were accomplished along with the development and growth of the network.

In 1996, early enough for the Greek reality, Cell Relay technology was adopted with the use of Cisco Systems' (former Stratacom) switches as it regards the core network. Also, routers were developed with VMS (former Motorola) devices at cumulating points and edge points.

In 2000, following the incorporation of Ioniki bank, the network became larger and more sophisticated. Ioniki's network was also integrated in the existing network, which was based on Cisco Systems routers. The smooth incorporation process was grounded on one hand on the Space Hellas' know-how and on the technology of the equipment provided by the two manufacturers (i.e. Cisco Systems and VMS).

In 2003 the most recent renewal of the bank's core network was accomplished with the installation of Cisco Systems 75 xx and 72 xx routers and the adoption of MPLS technology.
