Brief Description of the Project
The A.T.E.I. of Thessaloniki (ATEI Th.), in the context of an international open call for tenders in the context of “Measure 1.1.: Operational Program for the Information Society”, awarded Space Hellas the upgrade of its campus network in September 2003. This project involved the development of new infrastructure and the upgrading of existing ATEI Th. data intranet in order to enhance the concept of information society within the University. This enhancement necessitated the use of Gigabit Ethernet technologies for high speed communication and cabling infrastructure for the new campus buildings that would extend the scope of the academic community.
More specifically, this upgrade portion of the project involved the procurement and installation of active network components (switches & routers) and new, single-mode fiber-optic cables to connect the active equipment. The active equipment comprised Cisco Systems components, meeting contractual specifications, and was compatible with the ATEI Th's existing network equipment. Specifically, the contract specified a Cisco Catalyst 6509 for main switch, Cisco Catalyst 4506 access switches and Cisco 2691 router.
The cabling network was used to connect: the IT node with the Library node; the IT node with the Administration node; the Administration node with the Library node; and the Library node with the Telephone Exchange board. The cable utilized was single-mode, 1,050m long for outdoor use.
The project was completed in November 2003.
