Brief Description of the Project
The design of the backbone network of Internet Hellas follows two principles: simplicity of design and use of alternative providers. This arrangement ensures uninterrupted services in the entire nation. The design of the Internet Hellas network includes redundant connections among five (5) main nodded: Athens , Thessaloniki , Larissa, Patras, Chania – and redundant ISDN lines for connection with all PoPs.
Other lines by other providers are available for international connections. These lines terminate at different routers incorporating Hot Standby technology (HSRP) for automatic relapse to a redundant router in case of main router failure. All routers and main servers in the Data Center are connected to the Internet using double Fast Ethernet connections and double Switches.
In network of Internet Hellas is a MPLS network (utilizes the Multi Protocol Labeling Switching protocol), a novel technology for accelerating network flows and easy network management. The application of MPLS protocol on the network of Internet Hellas supports all new parameters for the development of advanced applications, offering at the same time sufficient quality of service (QoS).
The advanced network infrastructure of Internet Hellas, combined with strategic investments made in this context, permit the automatic upgrade of the circuits with interconnected networks during peak load periods.
In addition, the Internet Data Center offers direct and multiple connections with the Internet Hellas backbone, which runs along the country and offers 51 PoPs.
The active equipment of the Internet Hellas network is exclusively based on Cisco Systems products.
