Brief Description of the Project
In cooperation with Cisco Systems in July 2002, Space Hellas implemented an advanced local area network and installed the same at EKO ELDA S.A.'s main offices. This network serves the needs of 500 users.
The architecture of this network creates the background for a suitable networking infrastructure for high efficiency in information exchange, redundancy at connectivity level and in terms of equipment, as well as high availability in bandwidth. However, the main feature of the network is its expandability, which ensures high coverage rates not only of existing but also of future network needs. The company's future network needs relate to the anticipated increase in network users, as well as in the accommodation of applications. These changes will be effected with only minimum equipment upgrades, averting the possibility of network replacement.
Using Catalyst 6500 network devices by the largest network manufacturer, Cisco Systems, and the installation of Supervisor Engines and reserve Power Supply units along the network, we attained a continuous flow of communication among the users at hardware level.
This network architecture warrants redundant connections even in the face of complications with the main processor. Finally, the reserve processor is activated automatically and the requested information takes an alternative route to its destination. This process is transparent to the users.
Space Hellas , having a long experience and proven expertise in the telecommunications sector, was able to provide dedicated consultant services to the client for network expandability, upgrade and transfer of know-how. Space Hellas ' target in relation to this project was to fully exploit network resources without disregard to the client's infrastructure, and thus add to EKO-ELDA's efforts for growth.
