The department for IT Security of Space Hellas placed the Germanos Group of companies under rigorous security benchmarking in order to design and configure a security system involving multiple Firewalls on the client's Internet platform, and ultimately proceed with the installation of all systems needed.
In particular, the Security Design included the identification and qualification of the then current Internet Infrastructure of the client, analysis of the client's Operating Requirements, the design of a transitional stage and the drafting of Security Policy for the Firewall systems.
The Security Policy was designed to provide the Germanos Group the electronic facilities needed for the Group's operation and communication with its customer, e.g. e-mail and database search, in the context of a secure environment.
The security system applied comprises 4 stateful inspection firewalls – a firewall architecture that works at the network layer in sets of two firewalls, with one set on redundancy (High Availability) each time. We also created multiple DMZs, where the firewalls allow only the traffic of data complying with Security Policy provisions. The first pair of firewalls separates the Germanos' Intranet from the Germanos' WAN connections and from those of its subsidiaries. The second firewall separates the first firewall from the networks of Germanos' associates and from the Internet.
The particular technology of firewall serial connection boosts security in Germanos intranet applications, while the redundant firewall set allows communication among networks, even if a single firewall in the set fails.
