Study and implementation of Server Consolidation and data security system |
Concise Description of the Project
This project concerns the supply and installation of new servers and software in a cluster network including the transfer of all applications from the old servers. In addition, it concerns the creation of a hierarchical local network (LAN) with structured cabling and LAN switches.
The new installation has the following characteristics:
- Hierarchical Design Model
- Switching Technology (in the entire extent of LAN)
- Support of automatic adaptation of user's access speed (at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps (autosensing))
- Use of optical fibres in the vertical wiring, providing thus 1 Gbps bandwidth in the core network, which is possible to be increased in future
- Support for the creation of local networks (VLANS) – IEEE 802.1 Q
- Layer 2 switching
The implementation of this project was made with IBM servers and 3COM LAN switches, and aimed at the following:
- Better performance of the network and high speeds of access for the end user
- Creation and easy management of rules of access for the users of the various applications
- Software installation for the central and integrated management of the network (monitoring/administration)
- Establishment of a central backup process for the users' files
- Installation and automatic update of the software for the protection against viruses (antivirus software), so much at the level of servers as much at the level of clients
- Upgrade of the company's e-mail server
- Central installation of a Faxination server and possibility of access from all the users
- Demarcation of amplitude of the transmission line for the customers and the internal users, so that the customers' fast access to the ICAP's services is ensured
- Installation of software (Firewall), for the network's security so that the data is protected from exterior users' intrusions
- Establishment of Internet access policy, with the possibility of exclusion at the level of user, schedule and web page
- Creation of an entirely open-ended infrastructure.
- Adoption of International Standards
- Creation of backup and availability infrastructure
- Full support of branches – Creation of Intranet services infrastructure
- Initial Disaster Plan
- Creation of infrastructure for the statistical monitoring of visits of ICAP's web pages
