Brief Description of the Project
The client required the development of a local area network (LAN) in a 7-storey building and connection of the network with the client's control centre located at a distance of 10 km, where another LAN had also been installed.
Space Hellas identified all current and future needs of the client and its engineers analyzed these needs per client team/department in relation to the floors in the client's building. This resulted in a solution involving a fully switched 10/100 Mbps network. This network comprises two switches per floor, depending on the number of users, and a main switch which manages the rest of the switches. The connection between the main switch and the other switches is made using high speed links.
A router was used for the WAN connections, i.e. the connection of the building with PPC offices at Agios Stephanos of Attika.
For the LAN design we utilized 3 Com switches, the SuperStack 3300T type. Each switch offers 24 ports of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. The main switch is of the same type with open valve, where a 3 rd level module was added. This allows each modular unit to route IP traffic among the sub-networks.
For the WAN connections we utilized Motorola products, the Vanguard 6455 type which is in the Vanguard 6400 series. This series incorporates numerous innovations and comes to supplement a well tested and successful series of products. These products are ideal for application in similar environments, offering high efficiency, reliability and strong QoS.
