ZERIDIS SCHOOLS

Client :

ZERIDIS SCHOOLS

Contracted object :

Voice Communication Network

Year contracted :

2002

Brief Description of the Project

The advanced Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 IP-telephony platform was selected to meet the telecommunication needs of the new Zeridis Schools.

The new Zeridis installations comprise 5 buildings which now connect with multi-mode fiber-optics cabling for the transfer of data/voice/image.

The Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 utilizes the fibre-optics network in the best possible way, as it comprises of a main cell installed in one the buildings, plus 4 more cells for each of the other buildings. The later connect to the main building with a pair of fibre-optics cables each.

The cell-type structure of the Alcatel OmniPCX 4400, i.e. its capacity to expand by accommodating more cells, offers greater flexibility at installation and future expandability, thus reducing the cost of cabling.

The advantages accrued from the fibre-optics cabling are the following:

  • No copper wires are necessary as they allow only low bandwidth communication. Fibre-optics cabling allows the transfer of voice/data/image at high speeds.
  • No new pair of copper cables is necessary for each subscriber operating from a remote building. If the contrary were true, one should expect that the pairs of copper wires would become unavailable sometime in the future and the client would be faced with time-consuming and costly cabling works.
  • The remotely located cells of the main panel may also be placed on a RACK, thus allowing a compact architecture for the entire equipment
  • The Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 allows voice communication under TCP/IP (Voice over IP) protocols, thus ensuring better flexibility in user subscriptions.

The Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 platform installed at Zeridis schools is furnished with 336 digital and 12 analog circuits connecting Alcatel Reflexes Desktop Phones, and 1 PRI-ISDN circuit for ISDN connection with the National Telecommunication Provider (OTE). In-coming calls are routed by an IVR system either from the Parents' Liaison Department or from the Telephone Exchange operator's.
