ATM Security
The evolution of ATM (Automated Teller Machines) technology is absolutely in line with developments in networking technologies. The IP networking protocol as well as the variety of different operating systems, such as Windows OS, now characterize also this part of the banking environment.
Risks:
On the one hand, these developments offer many advantages to the Bank and its services; on the other hand the ATM machines are now subject to the same risks as the ones of an endpoint device that uses IP connections. ATM is subject to serious legal and regulatory framework since they manage customers’ cards. Therefore, ATMs must follow certain procedures such as connection encryption and data storage.
Solution:
Space Hellas has designed and implemented an optimal security architecture through which the basic information security requirements are addressed, i.e.:
-
Network access control to the ATM through an access lists application
-
Encryption of communications by means of proper encryption protocols
-
Prevention of attacks related to data security (Intrusion Prevention, Antivirus, Content Filtering, and others)
-
Authentication of users who have access to the ATM and the ATM server
-
Provision of backup 3G or GPRS connection to offsite ATM
-
Extensive event reporting
-
Prevention of «sniffing» attacks
